Redefining value
Our Story
The business was established in 1993 by the Hussain family in the Lancashire mill town of Accrington as ‘Accrington Rolls’ which later became known as ‘Accrol’. Their decision to enter the tissue business was driven by its high demand, lack of ‘sell by’ date, restricted importing, and its single-use nature. In its first full year of trading, the business achieved sales of over £1 million. This sales milestone was accomplished despite a very small manual production facility and a severe lack of capital funding.
The business relocated to Blackburn in 1996, and then to its present location in 2004, with a purpose-built 65,000 sq. ft factory and warehouse, as well as the installation of new state-of-the-art production lines. Significant capital investment in subsequent years led the business to achieve significant growth year on year.
In 2014, the business achieved sales of over £100 million and its current site had grown to over a 350,000 sq. ft factory and warehouse space. It remained in private family ownership until 2014, following which private equity investment was introduced into the business leading to London AIM listing in 2016.
The business completed its first major acquisition in November 2020, buying Leicester Tissue Company (LTC) an independent supplier of private label toilet tissue and kitchen towel. Shortly after in April 2021, the business acquired John Dale, a highly scalable, flushable, and biodegradable wet wipes business based in the North of Wales. The business then welcomed Severn Delta, a complementary wet wipes business in Somerset, to the group following an acquisition at the beginning of 2024.
In May 2024, Accrol was acquired by The Navigator Company (‘Navigator’), a leading integrated European forest-to-paper producer and key player in the Western European tissue market. The acquisition marked a breakthrough milestone for the business, opening numerous opportunities for enhanced service and product offerings.
In the UK, we operate at sites nationwide in Blackburn, Flint, Leicester, Leyland, and Bridgwater.
